Zhu Wei was born in Beijing in 1966, and studied art at the Beijing Children's Palace. In 1982 he joined the People's Liberation Army, and in 1992 his army unit was demobilized. He established his studio, Zhu Wei Art Den, in 1993. In 1998, he traveled to the United States.
