Milles was born in 1875 in Sweden. In 1892, he left school to apprentice with a cabinet-maker and carpenter. He later studied woodwork, carving, and modeling at the Stockholm Technical School. By 1955, the year of his death, Milles had been awarded many honorary degrees and prizes for his work.
