Klinge was born in Heiligenstadt, Germany, in 1954. From 1980-1984 he studied sculpture at the Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Kunst, in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1989 he established a studio in Stuttgart, and in 1994 he received the Felix Hollenberg Prize.
